Dr. David Johnson has been in higher education for many years, having begun his academic career with his bachelor degree from UC Davis in 1983. After working for three decades in all related management fields for some of the largest corporations in the United States, Dr. Johnson went back to obtain both his MBA and Ph.D.as an adult learner. Thus, Dr. Johnson has experience in the traditional brick-and-mortar, hybrid, and online educational environments as a student and as a professor.

Dr. Johnson is experienced and has expertise in profit and loss management, labor resource optimization, retail merchandising, marketing, business strategy, startups/turnarounds, employee relations/retention, customer relationship management, vendor/supplier administration, human resources, and staff training and development. 

Dr. Johnson also earned both his Six Sigma Lean/DFSS Green Belt and his Six Sigma Lean/DFSS Black Belt certifications, which are techniques and tools used for process improvement. 

Dr. Johnson also worked overseas in the Peace Corps in the Kingdom of Tonga where he was responsible for including budgeting, directing, marketing, planning, engineering new systems, transportation and operations systems in the largest vocational agriculture school in the country. He also administered and was in charge of class materials and outlines, and wrote Tonga’s first vocational agricultural syllabi in their language. 

Dr. Johnson has been married for 34 years to his wonderful wife, Betsy; and has three children. His eldest graduated from UC San Diego then Rensselaer for her Masters and is a senior consultant at Accenture, his middle daughter graduated from Stanford and is a General manager at Hallmark Labs, and his son graduated from UC San Diego in Mechanical Engineering and works for the US Navy at Pearl Harbor.
