BSN Orientation at Westcliff: Your First Step Toward the RN Badge
Starting nursing school isn’t just another check on your to‑do list — it’s the beginning of a life‑changing journey. That transition became real for Westcliff University’s newest BSN students during New Student Orientation at our Corona, CA College of Nursing campus.
Orientation was more than logistics. It was a day that turned nerves into confidence, faces into future classmates, and personal motivations into shared purpose.
Orientation Day: Where the Journey Begins
From the moment students stepped onto campus, the energy was clear: this is where their nursing path starts to take shape.
Orientation was built around practical readiness and community connection. Students:
- Met faculty and support staff who will guide them through the program
- Completed headshots and IDs for badges
- Explored the Corona campus, including simulation and clinical prep spaces
- Learned how to access key academic and student support resources
But just as important as the checklist was the feeling of belonging — a sense that they had stepped into an environment built for their success.
Real Support, Real Preparation
Orientation wasn’t about overwhelming students — it was about equipping them.
Students received insights into:
- How the BSN program works, semester by semester
- Academic and student success resources, from tutoring to advising
- Navigating the Corona campus and its facilities
- Maintaining balance and resilience, including mental health guidance
- Getting to know peers and beginning to build their nursing cohort community
These aren’t just steps — they’re the tools future nurses will use throughout their clinical and academic journey.
Voices From the Day
Joy Kiat‑Floro, Associate Dean of Nursing Academics, reminded students of how much preparation brought them to this moment:
“So much prep came together for students to be in this moment. It took our entire village, but they made it — and we’re proud to have them.”
Students echoed that sentiment with their own reflections:
“Today was our first real taste of the school,” said Aries Rios. “I got my schedule, learned the system, and now have a better sense of how to start my career and what to expect.”
Community Starts Here: Cohorts and Connections
Orientation wasn’t just informational — it was relational.
Meeting classmates early set the tone for collaboration and mutual support:
“I honestly really enjoyed meeting my cohort,” said Kevin Kim. “We have a very diverse group — all ages, all walks of life.”
It’s that diversity — of experience, background, and perspective — that often makes nursing programs richer. Students begin learning from each other as much as from their instructors.
Why Nursing? Personal Stories, Shared Passion
For many students, orientation also invited reflection on why they chose this path:
“My own experience with nurses during a high school injury inspired me,” Rios shared.
“Their friendliness and care pulled me toward nursing.”
Another student, Sarah Cervantes, described how family healthcare experiences shaped her passion:
“Seeing nurses in action throughout my life made me want to be one. Now I’m officially getting started.”
These personal stories are powerful reminders that nursing is both a profession and a calling — one grounded in human connection.
Looking Ahead: What’s Next
With orientation complete, students are focused on what comes next:
classes beginning as early as January 5, 2026.
“It’s time to put on our running shoes and get ready to sprint through this,” Rios said — a light‑hearted metaphor that actually captures the energy, dedication, and momentum of the group.
For these future nurses, orientation wasn’t just an event — it was the moment when a dream became a timeline.
