Campus Mourns the passing of Jason Sanchez

Irvine, CA

Dear Westcliff family,

It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news of the passing of Jason (JJ) Sanchez, one of our student-athletes.

Friends and family members shared the news with us this morning that he passed. We don’t have any further details to share at this time.

Our hearts are broken with the news of this profound loss. We offer our deepest condolences to the Sanchez family and ask that our community join us in keeping JJ’s family, friends, and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

“This morning, I was heartbroken to learn of the tragic death of Westcliff University Baseball player, Jason Sanchez, affectionately known as “JJ” in the athletics department. JJ was such a great person, an outstanding leader, and an exceptional teammate to everyone that graced his presence.”  – Shawn Harris, Associate Dean of Athletics

The university sends its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to his parents, family and friends. We will continue to stay in touch with the family to ensure they have the support they need during this difficult time. For now, we want to give the family and JJ’s friends, classmates, and teammates time to grieve. We will be sharing information about events to remember and honor his life in the weeks to come.

We are here to guide and support our students, faculty, and staff as many ways as we can, and this includes providing access to grief counselors to help them cope with the pain and sorrow this tragedy brings.
